What is smart charging?

Smart Charging is a free service from Frank énergie that automates the charging of your electric car at economical times within the time window you set.

We charge your car during the most affordable hours, but also when there is surplus energy on the grid. This way, we optimize in both the EPEX Spot and imbalance markets.

The first optimization takes place during low-price hours on the EPEX Spot energy market, and the second comes as a ‘Bonus’ by adjusting the charging process in the imbalance market. To achieve this, we don’t simply charge only during the cheapest EPEX Spot hours.

This bonus is shown in the app and credited to you every month, ensuring that your overall charging cost is always lower than if charging had occurred only during the cheapest EPEX Spot hours.

It’s also good to know that we first perform a short calibration period to better estimate your car’s charging speed and improve optimization for future sessions.
